Name : Ii International Uuno Klami Composition Competition 2008 - 2009

Description :
The First International Uuno Klami Composition Competition was held in Kymenlaakso, the region of Southeast Finland, 2003-2004. Similarly to the first competition, the aim of the Second International Uuno Klami Composition Competition is to produce good new repertoire for a small orchestra of sinfonietta type. Contestants must be citizens of a Nordic country, of an EU Member State or of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Switzerland or Liechtenstein. There is no age limit in the competition. Works entered for the competition must not have been previously published or performed. They must be 15-30 minutes long and reach the Competition Office by 1 December 2008 at the latest. The jury will choose at least three but not more than five of the compositions for the finals in winter 2009. The Competition will culminate in finals concerts to be held in Kymenlaakso, the province where Finnish composer Uuno Klami was born, on 18 and 19 September 2009, after which the Jury will select the winners. The finalists will be invited to attend the rehearsals for and premieres of their works. The orchestra at finals concerts will be the Kymi Sinfonietta. Tickets for the concerts will go on sale in January 2009. The II International Uuno Klami Composition Competition has an internationally acclaimed Jury. The members of the Jury will be composer Kalevi Aho (Finland), composer Magnus Lindberg (Finland), composer Anders Eliasson (Sweden) and conductor Yasuo Shinozaki (Japan/Great Britain). The following prizes will be awarded: I prize 11,000 euros, II prize 9,000 euros and III prize 7,000 euros. The Jury will have the right to divide the prizes in some other way. The First International Uuno Klami Composition Competition, organised between 2003-2004, had a large number of entries: 117 compositions from 23 countries. The International Uuno Klami Composition Competition Patron’s Association is the organiser of the II International Uuno Klami Composition Competition.
