The Committee on Honors and Awards of the Modern Language Association invites translators and publishers to compete for the eighth Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for a Translation of a Scholarly Study of Literature. The prize is awarded each odd-numbered year for an outstanding translation into English of a book-length work of literary history, literary criticism, philology, or literary theory. In the competition of 2009, the committee solicits submissions of translations of scholarly studies of literature. Translations published in 2007 or 2008 are eligible to compete. Translators need not be members of the association. The prize consists of $2,000 and a certificate presented to the winning translator at the association's annual convention in December 2009.
